Christmas Craft Fayre
In a bid to bring in some much needed funds, the recently formed ‘Stitch’n’Bitch’ group of Woolavington WI put their talents to good use– and the test! – by taking a table at the WI Christmas Market in Taunton.
Held in the North Street Church Hall (a good site opposite Debenhams) on Nov 17th, an intrepid relay of Stitchers set up and manned the stall from 10am until 4pm. Worries as to sufficiency of stock proved quite unnecessary; it was much more a case of ”Where on earthdo we put it all?”!
There was certainly a colourful and eye-catching array of items for sale, so much so that the Trustees complimented the group on their workmanship and excellent display– not bad for first-timers! The hall was bustling throughout the day with visitors and shoppers, and there was a lovely friendly atmosphere with all the different WI groups taking part. Refreshments provided by Kingston St. Mary WI smelled very good and were most welcome - as was the chance of a sit down to eat them, but not a lot of time for that for the workers!
At the end of the day there was still stock left to be packed away, but better that than to run out; with some money still to be collected, a very healthy and slightly surprising amount has been raised – and all while the 13-strong group were enjoying themselves!
