Woolavington WI Meeting Report June 2017
“Welcome aboard the cruise ship “Inspiring Women” for an interesting, informative and interactive trip as we share an exciting journey together.”
Thus were Woolavington WI members greeted by Deputy Cruise Entertainment Officer Penny and her assistant Eve as they boarded at Southampton eager to set sail.
Having found their designated decks (tables) Promenade, Boat, Bridge and A and settled in, the passengers were introduced to their assigned crew member, easily identified by their natty nautical caps, and were served a fish and chips supper delivered to the ship from the Admiral Blake Fish Bar by the crew.
Then it was time to depart, waving goodbye as we set out on our journey of discovery. Cruise Entertainment Officer Mo Retford, who was sadly unable to attend as she was recovering from an operation, had plotted the course.
Penny and Eve guided the passengers along the route with compass directions; need to know your port and starboard too!
The quiz questions steered members away from the British Isles coast line and out to sea; thinking caps were needed to work out the destinations. Along with the questions photographic hints were given to help identify landmarks in the countries we visited on the voyage around the coasts of France, Portugal, Spain through the Straits of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean.
Lots of laughter ensued as members attempted to plot a straight course to the final port.
After a spirited rendition of “What shall we do with the drunken sailor” members disembarked, finding their sea legs before heading home.
