Meeting Report - May 2012
The May meeting of Woolavington WI was less well-attended than usual due to a combination of early holidays with a ‘bit of a bug’ going around! President Lynne welcomed just 27 members and one visitor to the meeting, which began as ever with a hearty rendition of ‘Jerusalem’.
After the usual business necessaries, Secretary Angela announced the launch of our very own Woolavington WI website, www.woolavingtonwi.weebly.com-! A result of collaboration between Angela and Kerry, the site is now fully functional and ‘linked-in’, and will be updated with meetings and events as they arise. An exciting development, it will enable anyone new to the area to find out about us and what we do.
The speaker for the evening, David Andrews, arrived well laden with instruments and various paraphernalia to “Sing-along Play-along”.Something along the lines of a music-hall artiste, David is an entertainer/comedian/musician. His patter was incessant and interspersed with music, his musical talent is obvious – it would have been good to hear this in a more serious vein. His ability to compel even the most reluctant participant resulted in a good deal of hilarity, even if some of his repertoire of songs was older than the hills!
After the break members were asked to consider the proposal put forward for the AGM, about the provision of more midwives. Kerry spoke in some detail for the motion which she felt was not sufficiently accurately worded, and Carolyn put the argument against. Members then gave a show of hands and voted unanimously to abstain from the motion.
The competition for an extra verse of a favourite song was won by Lynne’s ‘Row, row, row your boat’ parody, second Cindy’s ‘the sun has got his hat on’ verse and third Mo’s ovine version of ‘Jerusalem’!
Members were reminded of the forthcoming bring-and-share Jubilee Garden Party on June 19th which will start at the earlier time of 6pm,weather-permitting!
