WOOLAVINGTON WI JUNE MEETING REPORT
There was much popping of corks in Woolavington as the WI celebrated their 70th birthday. President Teresa Hemms welcomed past and present members and some visitors from other WIs to the Village Hall, which was decorated in honour of the occasion with balloons, banners and bunting.
After a minimum of business Imelda Delve entertained, tracing the history of variety and music hall from Restoration times. She illustrated her talk with photos and song, inviting everyone to join in some well known choruses.
A magnificent buffet was much appreciated by all and the cake, made and beautifully decorated by Corena, was cut by the President and the oldest member, nonogenarian Elsie Thompson.
A surprise additional entertainment was provided by “Talia” and “Devra,” alias Teresa and Debra our President and Secretary, dressed in traditional costume, who impressed with their belly dancing routine.
All agreed it was a fun evening and a great start to the new year's programme.
