Members welcomed John Crabb to the September meeting for his talk entitled “Birds in Flight”. John had been one of those who spoke at last year's speaker auditions. He enthralled us then and did not disappoint for his full length presentation. By background a physicist, John has a keen interest in birds and photography and an aptitude for creating electronic wizardry which he has used to great effect in obtaining his amazing pictures. John was an excellent speaker, giving an amusing presentation whilst telling us the story of how he developed the various gadgets for close up shots of the birds who visited his garden. We marveled at the clarity of the pictures of birds such as blue-tits, robins and owls, to name a few, in which each feather on the outstretched wing could clearly be seen. The photos were a joy to behold, not just because we had such a privileged and intimate view of these wild birds but also for the pleasing and artistic pictures John had obtained. |
