MILES TEA VISIT
Wednesday 28th May saw 10 members setting off from the Village Hall on their visit to Miles Tea in Minehead where they were greeted by John and given a tour round the factory.
The Minehead base is solely used for tea blending and packing whilst the Porlock site is for coffee.
The company dates from 1888 and was originally based in the Midlands.
Tea arrives in 68 kg sacks from places such as India and Kenya and costs from £2 a kilo up to £ 20, £30, £40. A blend may consist of 14 different teas and changes weekly as the sacks are used up.
The company employs 30 and we were able to see some of them at work in the packing area.
A visit to the blending room gave us the opportunity to observe the tea taster at work and we also tried several varieties.
John kindly donated a mug filled with goodies as a raffle prize for the Village Show in August when informed several of his visitors were involved with the organisation of the event.
